Jakub Święcicki

Designer of utility textiles and machine embroideries, fiber artist and artisan. He is a graduate of design with the specialization of product design at the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce (2018) and design of utility forms at his Alma Mater two years later. Currently, he is a PhD student at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Since 2017 he has been a designer at the Institute of Design in Kielce where he coordinates the Fabric Studio.
His works were awarded and exhibited many times, e.g. in Design Alive and Label Magazine, as well as during Peru Design Biennial, Zlin Design Week and Green Concept Award.
As part of the Knot collection he creates large-format macrame carpets, which are also plant dyed.

By deciding to implement the projects using the macrame technique, I want to show traditional craftsmanship in a completely new light, in a minimalist way.
In every design I tie vertical clove hitches. The basic color of the collection is light beige - the natural shade of the cotton yarn. Other colors introduced into the designs are obtained thanks to the use of plant dyeing - natural resources came from my immediate environment e.g. cones from spruce trees, inflorescence of staghorn sumac, onion husks. Large-format carpets are a unique result of several months of handwork. All production waste is reused for workshop activities and smaller projects.
