A pedestal in the name of color and geometry / 2

Small compositions of geometric solids, placed on little cubes, are perfectionist works, because they are fired in the kiln at once as the final form. Kryshtofik shows her craftsmanship, but goes further—she applies gradients of colors, textures, shiny glazes. She creates objects that enchant. They are as delightful as cream puffs from trendy patisseries, as sweet as French macarons. Yet it only takes a moment of looking at the works to notice that the artist constructs her compositions from everyday observations. Abstract spheres, cylinders, and cones are entwined with the corrugated hose of a vacuum cleaner, inside a cube she recreates the shape of a cream jar, a rough texture evokes a styrofoam sheet. A bourgeois figurine for the living-room table, instead of transporting us into a world of shepherdesses and ballerinas, enchants the everyday.
