Igor Polasiak

Born in 1986 in Będzin, sculptor, graduate of the Faculty of Sculpture at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in 2010. Repeatedly awarded scholarships for high achievements in artistic fields. An idealist steeped in the philosophy of Far Eastern culture. Since graduating, he has worked mainly in wood. In his realisations, he tries to combine sculpture with applied art, which he claims is closer to the human being. He designs and creates objects by combining carpentry traditions with design. Enthusiast of complex joinery combinations. Od ukończenia studiów pracuje głównie w drewnie. W swoich realizacjach stara się połączyć rzeźbę ze sztuką użytkową, która, jak twierdzi, jest bliżej człowieka. Projektuje i tworzy przedmioty łącząc tradycje stolarskie z designem.

For me, creation is a process that never goes the same way. I often stand in the role of observer, at other times I impose shapes. I try to enter into conversation with the matter. Wood is a material that has its own character and individuality. This listening to the material is the key to understanding it and working out a compromise, between my will as a maker and the character of this particular piece of wood with all its history. The joinery joints I use in my furniture were and are used by craftsmen in the construction of wooden architecture in China, Japan or Korea. It is crucial for me to keep these traditional techniques alive and promote them to a wider audience.
