For several years, the fashion for artisanal products has been growing in Poland. Individual, made with the utmost care, have gained popularity among residents of large metropolitan areas. At the same time, in many cities it is no longer possible to repair shoes or umbrellas.
Increasingly, in a world of mass overproduction, we are consciously choosing to outsource work to an artisan. The pandemic is a specific moment - the possibility of regional production, based on local materials, has gained in importance. At the same time, the financial crisis has hit manufacturers, whose products are sometimes many times more expensive than available mass-produced alternatives.
What is the place of crafts today, is it a mode of production doomed to niche, a temporary fad, or a chance to save the world and save us from the climate and junk apocalypse?
The online discussion will feature practitioners, theoreticians and lovers of the new, but also of this slightly older craft: Olga Milczynska, ceramicist and lecturer at School of Form, member of the association NÓW. New Crafts, Katarzyna Chudyńska-Szuchnik, a crafts researcher affiliated with the Museum of Warsaw Prague, Alicja Patanowska, winner of many awards, specializing in working with ceramics, and Pawel Jasiewicz, a didactician and practitioner who creates unique projects using wood. The debate will be moderated by Diana Nachiło, journalist of the monthly magazine "BIZNES meble.pl".
