Product description

Sun No. 108 is a fabric intended for wall hanging, entirely handmade, requiring several hours of a craftsman’s work to create. Raw sheep wool was used for its production, hand-dyed exclusively with natural dyes: marigold, campeche wood, tansy, goldenrod, avocado, and oak bark. The piece may have a tendency to fade or change its shade over time. This allows the kilim to gradually mature alongside its owner, accompanying them throughout their life.

Kilim is a very long-lived kind of textile, which can last dozens and even hundreds years with the proper care.

Metal rings have been sewn into the kilim, making it ready to hang on the wall. The colors and details of the kilim may vary slightly from those shown in the photo. This is due to individual display settings as well as the natural fading of plant-based dyes.

Technique

The kilim is a very distinctive textile that has accompanied humans for thousands of years, and its method of production remains unchanged to this day. There is no other handmade fabric that is exactly the same on both sides. The structure of the kilim is very tight. The warp threads, usually linen or cotton, are completely hidden, with only the woolen weft visible on the outside. This is why kilims have excellent qualities: they are exceptionally durable, resistant to mechanical damage, maintain cleanliness for a long time, and are easy to care for.

How to use

Kilim can be delicately vacuumed. Dry clean if necessary.
Tartaruga
Tartaruga is a small weaving studio founded in Łódź, Poland in 2017 by Jadzia Lenart and Wiktoria Podolec. They focus on handwoven contemporary kilims, rugs and wall hangings. All of our products are handmade with traditional tools and techniques. Most of the products are made of recycled yarns. Designs are inspired by the closest surrounding of the designers: nature and favourite objects, daily rituals or colors. Despite the designs are rather contemporary, they refer to the very rich kilim tradition and symbolism.
