Product description

Aurora is a double-sided handwoven kilim from the Nord-Sud collection, designed by Jadzia Lenart of the Tartaruga studio, made of wool on a cotton warp.

The kilim's pattern was inspired by travel memories; it is a synthesis of colors, tastes, scents, and fleeting emotions—frames recorded only in memory.

The kilim is signed, bearing a serial number as well as the names of the designer and the craftswoman. It can serve as an original wall decoration or as a rug on the floor.

Technique

The kilim was woven on a dobby loom using traditional kilim techniques. It is made from yarn that is a byproduct of carpet factories. Some of the yarn was additionally hand-dyed, but the limited availability of materials determined the color scheme of the piece. The edges of the kilim are hand-stitched and finished without fringes.

How to use

The kilim is double-sided, so it can be hung on a wall or in a space. It can also be used as a floor rug.
Tartaruga
Tartaruga is a small weaving studio founded in Łódź, Poland in 2017 by Jadzia Lenart and Wiktoria Podolec. They focus on handwoven contemporary kilims, rugs and wall hangings. All of our products are handmade with traditional tools and techniques. Most of the products are made of recycled yarns. Designs are inspired by the closest surrounding of the designers: nature and favourite objects, daily rituals or colors. Despite the designs are rather contemporary, they refer to the very rich kilim tradition and symbolism.
